Can COVID-19 help us breathe better?
Imagine if we could see COVID-19 from space.
NASA has -- or rather, they've seen the effects of the coronavirus epidemic. The US space agency's satellite images show a major dive in air pollution levels in China, thanks to closed factories and public transport systems.
Meanwhile, the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air in Finland found that China’s carbon emissions fell by 100 million metric tonnes in two weeks.
In Italy, the lockdown there has also reduced air pollution emissions, which is easily seen by satellites as well.
Reduced economic activity leads to reduced pollution, which leads to better air quality.
Interesting. I think I'll go take a hike.
